2025 THE WRITERS ROOM
TABLE READ EVENT
Humanitas annually hosts a table read event as a conclusion to the The Writers Room, a TV writing workshop for high school students. The Writers Room offers students an introduction to TV writing and the opportunity to act as the “staff” of a TV “writers room,” working together to pitch, outline, and draft a teleplay of a pre-existing series. The 2024-25 Writers Room was offered in person at Hollywood High School once a week throughout the school year.
The students were led through the TV-writing workshop by Teaching Artist Spiro Skentzos (Arrow, Grimm), after a 10-part speaker series featuring a range of industry professionals. This year, The Writers Room students chose to spec Abbott Elementary, which resulted in a 34-page script. Students performed the script for an audience of peers, classmates, and Humanitas’ guests including partners and past guest speakers.
The Writers Room is supported by the Muriel Pollia Foundation, Snap Foundation, and California Arts Council.
