“We are proud to have received the HUMANITAS Prize and honored Yahlin Chang designated Alight for this award. We believe there is simple human justice in the chance to build a life – each of us to write our own story filled with joy, connection, dignity and purpose. It’s incredibly affirming to be recognized by HUMANITAS for our work with refugees, trafficked persons, and economic migrants, to co-design solutions that help them build full and fulfilling lives. We’re so glad to be working together to inspire and unleash the abundance that exists in every human being.”

“The Animal Legal Defense Fund is honored and thrilled to be chosen by Pixar director and producer Rosana Sullivan as the recipient of her prize from Humanitas in recognition of her short film, Kitbull. This beautifully moving depiction of the friendship and empathy that develops between a homeless cat and an abused pitbull, dramatizes many of the emotions and needs that we know animals possess - loneliness, fear, friendship, empathy, and love. Sadly, our legal system still today regards animals as property, not individual beings entitled to basic respect and protection, and in the case of animals used for food or entertainment, not even to having their basic needs met. The Animal Legal Defense Fund’s mission is to protect the lives and advance the interests of all animals through the legal system. We greatly appreciate Rosana Sullivan for creating this sensitive animated film, and through it, shining a light on the qualities that animals and humans share, and for HUMANITAS for this generous prize.”

“The Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning and Children’s Media is so very honored to be awarded the HUMANITAS Prize for our work in carrying forward the legacy of Fred Rogers. We are living in a time when his wisdom is needed so very much. Fred’s ability to communicate directly to children can serve as a model for those who work with families and children. His acceptance of each person regardless of differences is a message that resonates within our society. We continue to receive many requests to offer Fred Rogers’ words of wisdom and bring audiences in touch with his calm, gentle manner. Our hope is to instill in others the caring and compassionate responses to children (and adults) that were exemplified by Fred Rogers.”
— Roberta L. Schomburg, PhD, Executive Director

“We are grateful to HUMANITAS and Taika Watiti for their generous support of IllumiNative and our mission to increase the visibility of Native peoples. Storytellers like Taika are key to challenging the stereotypes and misconceptions people have of our community. We are inspired by and grateful for filmmakers like Taika and applaud his work to support Indigenous creatives. Native people are as Taika said, the original storytellers and we are happy to use this generous financial support to support hilarious, passionate, and creative Native storytellers.”

For more than a quarter of a century, Women in Animation (WIA) has worked towards a world where women share equally in the creation, production, and rewards of animation, and WIA provides resources and connections to make that happen. WIA is thrilled to have a role model and groundbreaker such as Jennifer Lee within our present industry, and we are ever grateful that she and Walt Disney Animation Studios recognize the importance of WIA’s efforts and have thus donated her HUMANITAS award earnings to foster WIA’s cause.

As the popularity of animation has grown, it now reaches audiences of diverse age, gender, ethnicity, and culture. As this growth continues, so does the need to ensure that animation content represents the world as it should be – a world where women and all marginalized persons are equally represented, both behind the scenes and on the screen, to move culture
forward. WIA is pleased to partner with HUMANITAS to bring this globally balanced voice to the world of entertainment and, ultimately, to a world of equality and empowerment.
