CBS Gives Put Pilot Commitment to HUMANITAS Trustee Howard Gordon
As we mark the 20th anniversary since the premiere of CBS’ supernatural drama Touched By An Angel, CBS is taking in another drama project about an angel — this time a former one. In a competitive situation, the network has landed an untitled drama from Howard Gordon and American Horror Story executive producer James Wong with a put pilot commitment. Written by Wong, the untitled crime procedural centers on an angel who, after losing his wings, saves the life of a female police detective and together they try to uncover the mystery of why the angel is stranded as a mortal on Earth. The project hails from Gordon’s Teakwood Lane Prods. and 20th Century Fox TV where the company just inked a new overall deal.
WME-repped Teakwood Lane is behind the Emmy-winning Showtime drama series Homeland, co-created and executive produced by Gordon. The company recently produced the Fox event series 24: Live Another Day, which is eying another installment. It was run by Gordon, who also serves as showrunner on Teakwood’s FX series Tyrant, recently renewed for a second season. The company’s portfolio also includes the TNT drama Legends.
Wong, who has strong genre pedigree, has close ties with 20th TV. He has been on the studio’s hit FX drama American Horror Story since the first installment and previously worked on another popular 20th TV franchise, The X Files and its spinoff The Lone Gunmen. In features, he wrote Final Destination, which launched a successful horror franchise. In TV, he recently penned the A&E pilot Occult, which was executive produced by Michael Bay.
