HUMANITAS Board of Directors' Carol Mendelsohn Sells Dramedy to ABC

carol-mend-MainCarol Mendelsohn is off to a hot development season.

The former CSI co-showrunner has sold her second project this season, receiving a hefty put-pilot commitment with a sizable penalty attached for a journalism dramedy set up at ABC, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Liz Heldens (Deception, Camp) will pen the script for the untitled entry. The dramedy centers on a disgraced journalist who is forced to go back to work for his former intern, who has since invented a BuzzFeed/PopSugar-type news site. Mendelsohn and her Carol Mendelsohn Productions topper Julie Weitz will executive produce the hourlong entry via the banner's new overall deal with Sony Pictures Television.

This marks the second sale this development season for the prolific showrunner, who in June moved her banner from longtime home CBS Television Studios to SPT with a hefty new three-year pact and exited CBS' long-running procedural. Mendelsohn also has an adaptation of Turkish series Game of Silence with writer David Hudgins (Parenthood) set up at NBC with a pilot-production commitment and series penalty attached.

Mendelsohn, who continues to be credited as an EP on CSI and its upcoming CSI: Cyber spinoff, is repped by WME and Jackoway Tyerman.
