ken-burns-mainKen Burns' latest multi-part documentary "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History" doesn't debut on PBS until Sept. 14, but the filmmaker is giving L.A. a special (abbreviated) preview on July 22.

Burns, who will be in town to attend PBS' Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour panel, will host a one-hour screening of highlights from the seven-part, 14-hour film.

"The Roosevelts" combines the lives of Theodore, Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt, beginning with Teddy's birth in 1858 and ending with Eleanor's death in 1962. Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th president of the United States, and his niece, Eleanor, married his fifth cousin, Franklin. Franklin Roosevelt became the 32nd president. This film is the first time the lives of all three people have been combined into a single narrative.

Burns will be on-hand for a Q&A after the screening with Steven Ujlaki, the dean of Loyola University's School of Film and Television.

The screening will take place at the Theater at Ace Hotel in downtown L.A. beginning at 7:30 p.m. July 22. Tickets are $10 to $20.
