HUMANITAS Trustee Jason Katims inks new overal deal with Universal TV
In 2012, Friday Night Lights and Parenthood showrunner Jason Katims turned his True Jack Productions into a pod based at his longtime home, Universal TV. He signed a new overall deal with the studio and brought in an executive, Michelle Lee, as head of television. During the past four years, True Jack has generated three TV series and has a pilot in contention at Showtime.
Now Katims and True Jack have signed a new three-year overall deal with Universal Television. Under the pact, Katims and Lee will continue to serve as executive producers on True Jack’s two existing series, The Path at Hulu, created by Jessica Goldberg, which has been renewed for a second season, and the upcoming CBS medical drama Pure Genius, which Katims created and runs. Additionally, True Jack has anthology comedy pilot Mating, created by Stu Zicherman, at Showtime. The company also will continue to develop new projects for broadcast, cable and streaming services.
“Jason Katims is one of the true masters at mining the emotional core of his characters,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment. “Whether it be Parenthood, Friday Night Lights, The Path or Pure Genius, he brings an unparalleled authenticity to all he touches. We can’t wait for more great groundbreaking series over the next few years.”
