HUMANITAS Board of Directors' Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz to Collaborate on 'Jack Reacher'
Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz are reteaming with their The Last Samurai star Tom Cruise to tackle a Jack Reacher sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Paramount and Skydance are behind the new installment, which will continue the adventures of a former military police officer who continues to help people out. Reacher is an adaptation of a line of books by Lee Child, and the first installment proved to be a sleeper hit when it was released December 2012. (It grossed $80 million domestic and $218 million worldwide on a reported budget of $60 million.)
Christopher McQuarrie wrote and directed the first movie but only is executive producing the new installment.
Zwick and Herskovitz are in talks to write the new script, which will be based on the book Never Go Back, with Zwick to sit in the director’s chair.
Zwick last directed the chess drama Pawn Sacrifice, which starred Tobey Maguire and Liev Schreiber as masters Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky. The veteran director is known for movies such as Blood Diamond, Legends of the Fall and Glory.
